To protect nature, to protect from various environmental problems such as deforestation, global warming, wastage of food and damage, and to overcome future hazards and to raise environmental awareness among people. The World Environment Day, organized by the United Nations, is the world's largest annual event. In 1972, the United Nations General Assembly on the subject of human environment was organized by the United Nations from June 5 to June 16. During this discussion, World Environment Day was also suggested. Two years later, it was started celebrating from 5 June 1974.
लेकिन सवाल अब भी यही है कि हम पर्यावरण दिवस मनाते क्यों हैं? अगर हम पर्यावरण की रक्षा कर रहे हैं तो इसे नुकसान कौन पहुँचा रहा है? वो कौन है जो पेड़ों को काट रहा है? किसके कारण विश्व तापन की समस्या उत्पन्न हो रही है? कौन है जो भोजन को बर्बाद कर रहा है? कौन है जो जैव विविधता के लिए खतरा बना हुआ है? सभी सवालों का बस एक ही उत्तर है, हमलोग। वो हमलोग ही हैं जिन्होंने अपने स्वार्थ के लिए अपनी पृथ्वी, अपने पर्यावरण को नष्ट किया है और कर रहे हैं।

But the question is still why do we celebrate Environment Day? If we are protecting the environment then who is harming it? Who is the one who cuts the trees? What is causing the problem of global warming? Who is wasting food? Which is a threat to biodiversity? There is only one answer to all the questions, we. We are the ones who have destroyed their earth, their environment and are doing it for their selfishness.
अक्सर यह देखा जाता है कि लोग पर्यावरण दिवस को बड़े हर्ष के साथ मनाते हैं, लेकिन शायद वो यह नहीं समझते हैं कि यह हमारे लिए गर्व की नहीं बल्कि शर्म की बात है कि हम अपने ही पर्यावरण को नष्ट करते जा रहे हैं। हमें समझना होगा कि पर्यावरण दिवस मनाने मात्र से समस्याएँ दूर नहीं होंगी। जरूरत है हमें स्वयं में बदलाव की अपनी सोंच और अपनी आदतों को सुधारने की। जरूरत है हमें जागरूक बनने की। नहीं तो हम ऐसे ही पर्यावरण दिवस मनाते रह जाएँगे और हमारा पर्यावरण पूरी तरह से दूषित हो जाएगा।

It is often seen that people celebrate Environment Day with great joy, but perhaps they do not understand that it is not a matter of pride for us but a shame that we are going to destroy our own environment. We have to understand that just celebrating Environment Day will not remove the problems. We need to change our mind and improve our habits. We need to become aware. Otherwise we will continue to celebrate Environment Day in this way and our environment will be completely destroyed.
पर्यावरण के बचाव के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ द्वारा समय-समय पर अनेकों कार्यक्रम चलाए जाते हैं, लेकिन इनपर न तो हमारी सरकार ज्यादा ध्यान देती है और न ही हमलोग। आपको याद होगा कि सन् 1992 में रियो डि जेनेरो में संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ द्वारा आयोजित पृथ्वी सम्मेलन में इक्कीस बिंदुओं वाला एक एजेंडा बनाया गया था जिसे एजेंडा-21 नाम दिया गया था। सौ से भी अधिक देशों के राष्ट्राध्यक्षों ने इसपर हस्ताक्षर भी किया था। लेकिन उनमें कितनों ने उसे सही तरीके से लागू किया? क्या आपने कभी उन बिंदुओं पर अमल किया है? नहीं न?
यही कारण है कि हमलोग पर्यावरण दिवस मनाते हैं और ऐसा लगता है कि आगे भी मनाते रहेंगे।

The United Nations launched many programs from time to time to protect the environment, but neither our government nor we pay much attention to them. Perhaps you remember that in 1992, at the Earth Summit organized by the United Nations in Rio de Janeiro, an agenda with twenty-one points was made, which was named Agenda-21. It was also signed by the Heads of States of more than a hundred countries. But how many of them implemented it correctly? Have you ever followed those points? No?
That is why we celebrate Environment Day and it seems that we will continue to celebrate it even further.
